MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ) – Governor Tony Evers was in Marinette Thursday to announce a commitment that will be part of his first budget.
$31 million dollars will be budgeted to support Marinette Marines Shipyard expansion that will allow the company to compete for a $10 billion dollar federal shipbuilding contract, but the Governor said it will also create an additional 400 full-time positions.
“These are good family-supporting jobs that will boost our local economy,” he said. “The Shipyard expansion will ensure that Marinette Marine not only assures a workforce of 1500 employees but can add more.”
Senator Dave Hanson said he was happy to see the Governor make a decision that would benefit many and said he was able to work across the aisle with Representative John Nygren.
“We both agree that Marinette Marine makes the best ships in the world, Hanson said. “It shows me that he not only knows a good investment when he sees one, but he knows that if we are truly going to make our economy work, we need to get more resources and investments for communities.”
Nygren said in a statement that he met with the Governor last week and invited him to Marinette.
