MADISON, WI (WRN) – It’s the day after Christmas, and stores are going to be having their busiest returns day of the year.
State consumer protection director Michelle Reinen says anyone who got a gift through online shopping should check to see how best to return their gift.
“Who’s responsible for shipping, what timing, how the credits will be provided, you know directly back to a credit card or an in-store credit?”
Reinen says you should get your gift receipts and check with the retailer on how best to return an item.
“It may also give you the options that you can go to a brick and mortar store and return the item, even though you purchased it online.”
She also says if you have a complaint about returns, get a hard copy of the store’s policies
“Getting the information in writing will be very important, but then file that complaint and let consumer protect assist you through the process.”
She says if you’re having trouble with returns or if you think a company is trying to scam you, you can contact the DAT-CAP helpline at (800) 422-7128
