OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – First Degree Reckless Homicide charges have been filed against a man accused of causing the death of his infant son.
Cory Lyons allegedly caused brain damage to the child after jerking the baby up while frustrated with his crying. Lyons admitted he shook the child 5 or 6 times, jerked his head and allowed it to snap back.
Police say Lyons changed his story several times, before admitting to causing injury.
“The Defendant then admitted that he picked up (the baby) while frustrated and he jerked him, yelling “Stop.” The defendant gave a quick jerk demonstrating how he jerked (the baby) when he told him to stop. He had explained that he was frustrated. He stated that the child’s head snapped back and came forward. The defendant acknowledged that he had not been supporting the child’s head in any way at this time,” the complaint says.
The criminal complaint states that the child’s mother left the infant with Lyons and was told he was not breathing.
The autopsy shows that the child died from brain injuries.
A $250,000 cash bond was set at Lyons initial court appearance on Tuesday. Court records show that he’ll return to court on December 13 for a preliminary hearing.
