MADISON, WI (WRN) – Senator Tammy Baldwin has retained her seat and will serve another six years in the Senate, after handily defeating Leah Vukmir Tuesday.
Baldwin says voters soundly rebuked the big money that was spent on the campaign by Vukmir’s supporters.
“Democrats, Republicans, and independents sent a loud, clear message. They wanted a senator who works not for the special interests, but someone that works for you.”
Baldwin says she kept her head above water, despite large amounts of outside spending by groups looking to oust her from her seat.
“The Koch brothers named me their number one target, and special interests were ready to spend big to try and kick me out for standing up for you.”
Baldwin says that despite efforts to drag the Tomah VA scandal back into the election, veterans in Wisconsin were not buying it.
“They sent a clear message in this election that they don’t want politicians to play politics with their service and their sacrifice.”
Some networks had called the race for Baldwin immediately after the polls closed.
Baldwin had been leading Vukmir by double digits in multiple polls heading into Tuesday’s election.
