GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A weekend roadside cleanup tragedy in Wisconsin with a group of girl scouts and and a mother has area law enforcement reminding organizations to plan projects carefully.
What happened could not have been predicted.
The Girl Scouts were far enough away from the road and wearing proper attire for the job.
Even though the fault is believed to lie with the driver the vehicle, Brown County Sheriff Captain Jody Lemmens says they urge organizations to work with law enforcement before going out to do the work roadside.
“There are roads that are maybe a little more safe for pedestrian traffic.”
Lemmens says you can never be too cautious when it comes to people driving.
“The interstates you have multiple lanes traveling at a high rate of speed. We would be a little reluctant to have especially younger children out on those roadways.”
Even though an accident can happen anywhere, Lemmens says they are willing to recommend areas with better visibility that has less curves and hills to deal with.
She says there are roads that may be a little more safe for pedestrian traffic and says organizations can contact them to learn of areas that may have less curves and hills for drivers to deal with.
