GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Some tough decisions are ahead for the Green Bay City Council.
It’s budget time and the City Council has some deficit to make up.
“We are 2.2 million dollars in the hole and we have raises and benefits that we have to pay for the employees.”
Alderperson Bill Galvin says it is mostly because of decisions made with the tax levy in previous years.
“The current council pretty much realizes that we have to face reality and we have to bite the bullet this year.”
He says that most likely means increasing taxes and decreasing services.
“If you want to make significant cuts to the budget, you have to cut programs and cut the personnel that goes with it.”
The department heads are working on making cuts that have an impact, but would not put the safety of the community in jeopardy.
The council is scheduled to meet tonight to work on the budget.
“We are asking for long-term goals and solutions that will get us out of this mess and enable us to set up a budget and spending program.”
