GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Trick or Treating will get underway this evening. Green Bay Police Captain Kevin Warych says Green Bay is a safe community, but people still need to put safety first.
He says children’s excitement to get candy leads them door to door and possibly to unfamiliar areas.
“Know where the children are and what houses the children are going to.”
He says it is important that children know where they live in case they get lost.
During the hours of Trick or Treating, Warych says drivers need to pay extra close attention for kids darting in and out of roadways, eliminate all distractions and drive extra slow.
“The roads will be different with a lot of kids there, so we want drivers to be conscious of their surroundings.”
Last year, police reported one case of a suspicious item in Green Bay.
Officers say if anything seems suspicious while Trick or Treating or in the candy itself, to contact Police right away.
“Take a couple extra minutes to go through the candy.”
Warych says in past years, the community has worked together to provide a fun and safe Trick or Treating experience.
“The city of Green Bay is a great community where people are very watchful of children.”
Trick or Treat begins at 4:00 in Green Bay and Appleton.
