FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – Without a winner over this past weekend the Mega Millions jackpot has grown to a near record high, which means it’s all-hands-on-deck at a number of local convenience stores.
It’s been particularly busy at Korneli’s Mini Mart in Fond du Lac where lottery fever has struck the population.
“It’s been really busy on the lottery,” says store cashier Sarah Greeno. “A lot of people have been buying it.”
She says more people in the building means management has been scheduling more staff to meet the demand.
“We do have extra people coming in, which means we’re going to be extra busy,” she explains.
The current jackpot is $654 million, which is the second highest total in the game’s history.
To add to the excitement, the Powerball is currently at $345 million, meaning the two games have combined possible winnings of $999 million.
“They come in and ask for a Mega Millions and then go, oh yeah give me a Powerball,” says Greeno.
But, which one has been more popular at the store?
“It’s been about the same for both,” she explains.
The next drawing for the Mega Millions jackpot is Tuesday, while the next Powerball drawing is on Wednesday.
