CALUMET COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Calumet County Sheriff Officials continue to investigate a house explosion that occurred around 8:00 a.m on Fire Lane 12 near Harrison.
Outagamie County Sheriff Lieutenant Mark Wiegert says two people in an adjacent home suffered what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
The blast was enough for neighbors to be impacted. Jenny Hoffman lives two houses down from the house that exploded and says quickly noticed something was not right.
“I looked out the window and there was debris all over. There was a mattress in the lawn and sheets hanging off the powerline.”
She says thought it was an earthquake at first, but safety became her top priority.
“Make sure I got out safe and got the dog out safe.”
She says she also noticed children in a neighbors home crying, but a delivery driver was able to come to their rescue.
The home where the explosion took place and two adjacent homes were damaged, but Wiegert says it could have been a lot worse.
“We are very lucky that nobody was at that residence and that many had gone to work.”
People reported hearing the explosion in places like Appleton, Darboy, and Hilbert.
Fire Lane 12 is located east of the North Shore Golf Club.
There’s no word on what caused the explosion.
“Next step is to find the cause of the explosion. We want to make sure everyone is safe, so that is number one and number two is the investigation.”
