MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Governor Scott Walker says legislative leaders have called an Extraordinary Session regarding a tax incentives bill for Kimberly-Clark.
The session set for November 12th will discuss the $100 million tax incentives bill which would save Kimberly-Clark’s Cold Spring Facility in Fox Crossing.
Republican Senator Roger Roth says he is pleased to see that the ball is still rolling towards helping hundreds of Kimberly Clark employees keep their jobs.
“This is what I have been working for since January 31st when the company announced they were shutting down the facility.”
The company previously gave the state Senate until September 30th to vote on the bill but there weren’t enough Republican votes to pass it.
Senator Roth says other tax incentives have passed with bi-partisan support, but timing is making this case different. He says the bill will not pass before election day.
“No Democrat was going to do that in the midst of an election. Nobody wanted to give Governor Walker that perceived victory.
Governor Scott Walker released the following statement today regarding Kimberly-Clark:
“Legislative leaders are calling an Extraordinary Session of the state Legislature on Monday, November 12, 2018, to allow the Senate to take up Assembly Bill 963, which was approved by members of the Assembly earlier this year. Kimberly-Clark officials, union leaders, local leaders, Senator Fitzgerald, Senator Roth, and I have been working together to keep hundreds of good paying, family supporting jobs in Wisconsin. This is a major step forward in achieving our goal.
“My message to Kimberly-Clark employees is simple: we are fighting for you. We are working together to keep your jobs in Wisconsin.”
Senator Roth says he feels this is the necessary step to get the measure to pass.
“I would be absolutely shocked if, after the election, Republicans and Democrats couldn’t come together to support family-supporting union jobs.”
About 500 people work at the Cold Spring facility.
“Our promise to the workers is that we would never stop fighting for their jobs and we continue to do that today,” said Senator Roth.
The incentive bill was passed by the Assembly earlier this year.
