BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Brown County Sheriff’s Department have made an arrest in the long-standing murder investigation of Suzette Langlois.
On Wednesday, Deputies arrested 46-year-old Anthony John Kitchenakow at his residence on the Menominee Indian Reservation.
“On Wednesday, I contacted FBI Green Bay Field Division to seek their assistance to take Kitchenacow into custody,” said lead Investigator Srgt. Brian Slinger.
On August 29, 2016, Suzette Langlois was shot and killed in her vehicle which was parked in the driveway of 3020 Manitowoc Road in the Village of Bellevue.
“Initial forensics evidence obtained at the scene was only able to tell us that our likely suspect was a male. The thorough investigation was able to exclude suspects and led us to our primary suspect,” said Chief Deputy Todd Delain.
At a news conference, Friday Chief Deputy Delain said they believe Langlois was killed over a drug debt on the part of her boyfriend.
“We learned that Suzette’s boyfriend owed Kitchenakow a drug debt, and we believe that the debt was the reason for the shooting,” he said. “It is a case where she was there, the confrontation occurred and she was the intended target.”
They also say the investigation has taken this long in part because so many potential witnesses wouldn’t talk to detectives.
Investigators learned that Kitchenakow fled the area soon after the murder took place and remained outside of the jurisdiction for most of the time since the investigation began.
“Witnesses were hesitant to corporate in fear of their own safety or in fear of getting in trouble for their own actions,” Slinger said.
Chief Deputy Delain said detectives say the case against Kitchenakow started to build in June of 2018.
“We were looking for an additional piece of evidence,” he said. “Last week were able to match DNA from the firearm magazine that was located in Langlois vehicle to DNA taken from Kitchenakow following a recent federal investigation. We believe that this hit places Kitchenakow at the scene and ties him to the weapon that was used at the shooting.”
The Brown County Sheriff’s Department says the investigation continues.
