ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) – Ashwaubenon Public Safety responded to a two-vehicle crash on STH 172 at Babcock Rd around 9:30 last night (WED).
A 26-year-old Green Bay woman was seriously injured in the crash as she was the driver of the Ford which was allegedly driving eastbound on STH 172 when the Jeep, driven by an 80-year-old Ashwaubenon man turned in front of her car causing the crash.
An EMS crew from County Rescue Services happened to be in the area at the time of the crash and assisted with patient care and Green Bay Metro Fire also was in the area and assisted with patient care and a fire in the engine compartment of the Ford.
Ashwaubenon Fire/Rescue crews also responded.
They had to use extrication tools to free the woman from her vehicle.
Ashwaubenon Captain Jody Crocker says officers were able to fairly easily determine the cause of the accident.
“In this case, officers were able to smell alcohol on the gentleman’s breath and he admitted to drinking,” explains Captain Crocker.
80-year-old John Gaie was arrested for OWI causing injury.
“He was taken to the hospital and he remains there,” says Crocker.
His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
The 26-year-old female is in critical condition at a local hospital.
