GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will be adding a new building to their campus focused on science, technology, engineering, and math.
There was a ceremonial groundbreaking for The Brown County STEM Innovation Center on Monday, which was attended by Governor Scott Walker.
The Governor believes this center will address a common problem throughout the state.
“People are telling me they got jobs, they just don’t have enough people with the skill sets needed to fill those jobs,” he says. “This STEM Innovation Center will help do just that.”
The project was funded through $5 million in state money, $5 million in Brown County money and $5 in private donations.
For Governor Walker, it was an easy decision to designate state money towards the project.
“We thought it was worth it and then obviously it ties in with our overall plans of helping the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay establish a school of engineering at this site as well,” he says.
The building of this center was part of Governor Walker’s 2017-2019 capital budget.
For Walker, this building will hopefully assist his educational goals for the state.
“My goal over the next few years is to have every student in school graduate and to have every graduate have a game plan,” says Walker.
The center is aimed at helping develop the state workforce for the fields of science and technology, which are considered in high demand.
