MONROE, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Green County Sheriff Mark Rohloff confirmed that four people died in a plane that crashed that was traveling from Kenosha to Monroe.
Authorities believe that all of the people were family members. They believe a grandmother was piloting the plane with her daughter and two granddaughters on board. Their relatives reportedly live in the Monroe area.
Police say a 911 call came in around noon on Sunday saying that the plane was losing power. It would eventually land in an open field north of the Monroe Airport a short time later. Sheriff Rohloff says the plane “landed hard” and was totally engulfed in flames when it landed.
The airport manager was involved to make sure certain protocols were followed and to preserve the crash scene.
The Green County Sheriff’s Department along with the Federal Aviation Authority and the National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the crash.
