GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ)- A longtime tradition and premier sporting event for the region returns to Green Bay this weekend.
The 42nd annual Bellin Run will step off Saturday.
Assistant Race Director Linda Maxwell says while every year is different, the focus remains the same as it has for the previous 41 runs.
“It is such a great community event and celebration of people’s health and fitness,” she said. “For a lot of people, it is that one thing that they do every year with their family that relates to health and fitness.”
Maxwell says the event does more than just keep the participants healthy, and said runners experience much more than just a run.
“It’s the thrill of running through the streets, the spectator support and people out with their hoses and cheering as people go by.”
Over 10,000 were registered early, and more are expected to register this week.
Maxwell says new this year is a chance for law enforcement, military and first responders to participate in their uniforms.
“We are having them start up front, and it is an oppertunity for the community, the participants and spectators to thank these people for their service.”
Events start Friday, with race day Saturday.
The Bellin Run is one of the largest 10K’s in the nation.
