ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Fox 11 is reporting The Cornerstone Community Center is in the early stages of planning for a fourth ice rink at the facility.
Cornerstone manager Don Chilson says there’s no timeline for when a decision would be made whether to proceed with the project, and multiple hurdles remain — including finding financing for the project.
The center currently has three rinks.
The new rink would likely be placed to the south of the current main arena, which houses the national champion St. Norbert College men’s hockey team.
It is anticipated SNC would move into the new rink and also get a new locker room.
While a seating capacity has not been finalized, it would be similar to the current arena: room for about 2,000 spectators, including standing room.
Chilson declined to divulge the estimated price for the facility.
Chilson says it’s not just about the Green Knights.
The project is also driven by the need for more ice time for youth hockey teams, the desire to improve scheduling and seating capacity for high school games, and the hope to secure more tournaments.
Cornerstone is part of the Ashwaubenon Sports Complex, and village approval would also be needed.
The facility was built in 2000 with two rinks. The third rink, the Resch Olympic Pavilion, was added in 2007.
