UNDATED (WSAU) — The deadline is nearing in WPS’ “Name the Chicks” contest, which allows elementary students to name three peregrine falcon chicks born in Wisconsin Public Service nest boxes.
The second annual contest is open to students in grades K-8 in the WPS service area. Students can enter by submitting their name online at the WPS site. Only one name per student will be accepted, and if a winning name is submitted by multiple students a winner will be drawn at random.
The winning student will receive a certificate, photograph with the bird, and an invitation to the banding of the chicks in late May/early June. Additionally, the student’s class will receive a behind-the-scenes tour of the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary’s Birds of Prey exhibit, a birds of prey presentation from the Raptor Education Group, INC., or a classroom presentation from a falcon expert.
Last year’s winning names included “Serenity,” “Orville,” and “Morgan Freebird.”
Entries may be submitted here. The deadline for entry is April 30th.
