GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ)- Green Bay Metro Fire Department is warning of two post snowfall dangers.
Lieutenant Cody Johnson says homeowners need to check their furnace intake and exhaust vents to prevent carbon monoxide from coming into the house.
“Carbon Monoxide is an odorless, tasteless gas. You don’t even know it’s there.”
Having the vents blocked could also cause the furnace to stop working and pipes to freeze.
He says this is also a good time to check your carbon monoxide detectors or install some if you don’t have one.
Johnson says it is also important to clear snow away from fire hydrants.
Failure to do so makes it difficult for firefighters to respond in a timely way.
“It can delay us anywhere from two minutes to as long as ten minutes. That can seem like an eternity.
A three-foot perimeter around the fire hydrant will allow for easy hookup.
