OUTAGAMIE CO, WI (WTAQ) – An overnight fire in Outagamie County leaves one man dead.
At 1120 PM on March 12th, the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department and the Bear Creek Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Pine Road in the Town of Deer Creek.
When Fire and Deputies arrived on scene the structure was completely engulfed in flames.
Unfortunately, 23-year-old Cody Nachtrab was unable to escape and was found deceased in the residence.
Three residents, including a toddler, were reportedly able to escape the fire.
However, Bear Creek Fire Chief Pat Norder says that number might not be final.
“We did a lot of interviews with the officers that were on scene out there and I could not really answer that and be precise. I’ve gotten varied reports.”
The Outagamie County Sheriff’s department continues to investigate the cause of the fire.
Norder says “the only thing that we can really say is that (the origin) would be on the east side of the structure. We can’t even enter the building at this time yet because it’s burned to the basement, so there’s no floor left.”
He notes it’s to early to determine if foul play is a possibility.
Norder says the home is a total loss.
The Red Cross was dispatched to assist with the displaced family.
Bear Creek Fire Department was assisted by Manawa Fire Department, Shiocton Fire Department and Clintonville Ambulance.
