GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A combination of sleet and freezing rain is expected in Northeast Wisconsin during the early stages of this week.
That has local law enforcement reminding drivers to be careful on the roads.
“If they take their time, keep proper distance between you and the next vehicle, and not be in a rush: most likely, you’ll be able to get safely to your destination.”
Warych says the most common cause of winter accidents is driving too fast for conditions.
“Once you don’t pay attention and don’t realize how fast you’re going and there’s inclement weather, bad things can happen. They think their distance to stop is what it normally is when the roads are clear and dry but when you throw in ice, snow, and sleet, the stopping distance increases more and more.”
While Warych notes people should be careful on all of the city’s streets, he says people should be especially cautious in some areas.
“The side streets and all the untreated roads where there isn’t a main thoroughfare are going to be heavily iced and very slippery.”
The Fox 11 forecast calls for a combination of sleet, freezing rain, and a wintery mix on Monday afternoon. Freezing rain and freezing drizzle are expected Monday night. More freezing rain is expected Tuesday morning.
