STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Still no resolution on what will be done with Sturgeon Bay’s granary building.
City Administrator Josh VanLieshout reacts to alderpersons Laurel Hauser and Barbara Allmann walking out of Tuesday’s meeting.
“I’m still digesting what happened but ultimately, the council could not act on whether or not to award a contract to raze or to dismantle the grain elevator, because we did not have a quorum.”
The city’s fire chief has called for the granary to be razed, citing safety concerns.
But the Historical Society, including President Christie Weber, wants to save and renovate the facility, having collected $1.5-million dollars.
“I’m very proud of the council women to be trying at least to stop the perpetual litigation and save a historic building for the state of Wisconsin.”
After four failed attempts in two weeks, the council is now expected to consider the matter on January 2.
