NORTHEAST WISCONSIN (WTAQ) – Four Wisconsin faith-based organizations are teaming up to combat childhood poverty.
The Wisconsin Council of Churches, Citizen Action of Wisconsin, Kids Forward, and ESTHER-Fox Valley have launched the ‘End Child Poverty’ campaign.
It aims to half the child poverty numbers within the next ten years.
Citizen Action of Wisconsin Executive Director Robert Kraig says they’ve researched the issue for the past three years, with the campaign being fueled by word of mouth.
“We want people to come together and inspire the legislators and governors to help lead this effort. If we pull together as a state, we could dramatically reduce and ultimately eliminate child poverty.”
Organizers say employment, education, and ensuring strong families are all ways to cut down on childhood poverty.
