GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ)- Scammers continue to find creative ways to ruin your holidays, now consumers need to be careful when they ship gifts.
With an influx of online shopping, scammers are trying to catch you off guard, but not as a targeted victim, says Michelle Reinen of the Bureau of Consumer Protection.
“Scam artists are just sending these blasts out to people. They just know there is so much online holiday shopping.”
Reinen says emails requesting information or money from you before it can be shipped is one of the many examples, and you won’t be a victim if you stay clear from clicking.
“Just delete it. Don’t open it or do anything with it.”
Reinen said these scams are easy to detect if you just take the time to look.
Poor grammar, spelling errors and strange looking email addresses are all red flags.
A strong amount of internet traffic, is opening the door for scam artists.
“They are really good at impersenating the big box stores and getting you to click.”
FedEx provided some examples of the scams used.
***FedEx has custody of the victims ATM card and paying $85 dollars and filling out information will release it.
***The victims package is registered in special order and needs to be verified by clicking on the link.
***The victim is told that the address they are trying to send to is not correct and they need to click on a link that will allow them to print out an invoice that they can bring to the office to pick up their package.
***One email states they need to talk to the victim about their package and they need to click the link for the contact information.
Reinen says people are falling for all of them.
