FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ)- Saputo is closing its cheese plant in Fond du Lac.
The Montreal-based company announced Thursday it will close the facility on East Scott Street in May.
Nearly 130 jobs will be lost.
Saputo is expected to save over five-million-dollars a year by moving operations to a newly-built factory in western Wisconsin.
The company says the current production will be integrated into the company’s new blue cheese facility in Almena, Wisconsin, southwest of Rice Lake.
Some of the employees will have the opportunity to transfer to other Saputo locations.
The closure comes as the company tries to improve inefficiencies and decrease costs.
