GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Green Bay Police reported a piece of Halloween candy with a needle inside was turned in Thursday morning.
“The motive and intent, who knows what that is and why someone chooses to do this” Police Captain Kevin Warych said after he reported the finding.
This, just one day after Green Bay Police reported an incident free Halloween.
Green Bay Police Captain Kevin Warych says an 8-year-old girl was about to eat the candy, when the needle was noticed.
“The child was going to eat the candy, and in the process, the child noticed that there was a needle in it and quickly turned it over to her grandmother.”
Her grandmother then notified police.
The girl was reported to have done Trick or Treating near Velp Avenue, Neville Avenue and Winford Avenue.
Captain Warych said “With the candy being a couple days old, thrown into a bucket with all the other candy, it’s hard to follow up on.”
Police say at this time, there is no additional information to follow up on.
Warych said “the family wants to make sure that anybody else in the community does not experience what they did.”
The report from Green Bay joins a growing list of communties that reported similar harmful attempts.
Neenah reported a needle in three Kit-Kat bars, and the Menominee Indian Reservation reported a child found a bag of meth inside their candy stash.
“Sadly, we keep hearing stories of people finding suspicious items inside Halloween candy.”
Green Bay Police urge parents to check their kids candy carefully, and report any issues.
Captain Warych says this event is a good reminder.
