SEYMOUR, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Seymour police are reminding residents to lock their vehicle doors after a person tried stealing a car and led authorities on a high-speed chase.
Police say they responded to a suspicious person complaint Monday morning, after a witness reported a person looking into vehicles in the area.
As police were responding to the call, the witness said the suspicious person pushed a car out of a driveway and down the street before driving away.
With a description of the car, police located the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop.
Once the officer turned the emergency lights, the suspect sped up and went through two stop signs.
Due to the high rate of speed and erratic driving in a residential area, the officer decided not to pursue to the vehicle. The car drove down a dead-end road and did not return.
When the officer checked the area, the car was found abandoned in a corn field.
The car was taken out of the field by a local farmer and the owner of the vehicle verified it was taken without consent.
No one was arrested and the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
