MENOMONIE, WI (WSAU) An investigation is underway after a man was hit by a police squad car in western Wisconsin. Authorities say the incident happened around 1am Sunday morning in Menomonie when an officer saw someone lying in the roadway. The officer tried to swerve to avoid the victim but couldn’t.
The police department issued a statement: “A Menomonie Police Department squad was headed west on Wilson Avenue when the officer observed a person lying in the road, and the officer swerved but was not able to completely avoid striking the person.”
The man was taken to the hospital where his condition is unknown. The victim has since been transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
There were large numbers of people on the streets for homecoming weekend at UW-Stout. But this accident happened on more-remote section of road where there are fewer businesses and pedestrians.
The Dunn County Sheriffs Department will investigate the incident.
