UNDATED (WSAU) – Foxconn has picked a location in Racine County for its new manufacturing plant. It will be located in Mount Pleasant. The Foxconn campus will include up to 20-million square feet of manufacturing space.
A formal announcement is being made Wednesday.
Officials from Racine County have been meeting with Foxconn for weeks. Foxconn will build in an existing manufacturing complex. There are also reports that a real estate development firm has been quietly talking with homeowners about selling their property to assemble a campus of up to 1,000 acres.
The Foxconn development will include an LCD manufacturing facility, with groundbreaking expected in 2018 and operations to begin in 2020. Foxconn has also talked about building an interim assembly facility that could be running in a year, using components that are made elsewhere. The campus will include multiple buildings and ancillary functions to the manufacturing process. Foxconn has also met with UW-Madison officials about research and development opportunities and has hinted that they may also look for other locations for additional projects in the state.
The Mount Pleasant location is a short distance from I-94 and has nearby rail access.
Foxconn could receive up to $3-billion in state incentives, which are tied to the number of jobs the new development creates. The state’s economic development corporation has been negotiating with Foxconn about how the incentives will be administered. It’s expected up to 13,000 people will be employed at the new campus.
