GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – For the first time in eight tries, Aaron Rodgers has come out on the winning end of an overtime game in the NFL.
Green Bay rallied from a 14 point halftime deficit to beat Cincinnati 27-24.
The Bengals started the scoring on the game’s opening drive, courtesy of a 10-yard touchdown pass from Andy Dalton to A.J. Green.
Green Bay responded on its first drive of the game, with Aaron Rodgers finding Lance Kendricks from one yard out.
Cincinnati then scored two touchdowns within a span of 2:09.
The first was a Dalton toss to Giovani Bernard. The second came on a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown by William Jackson, the second pick-six of Rodgers’ career.
In the third quarter, the lone score was a one-yard touchdown toss from Rodgers to Jordy Nelson, trimming the Packers’ deficit to seven points.
The teams traded field goals in the fourth quarter before Rodgers again found Nelson in the end zone, this time from three yards out.
After stopping the Bengals on the first drive of overtime, the Packers won it on a five-play, 70-yard drive.
Mason Crosby’s game-winning 27-yard field goal was set up by a 72-yard pass from Rodgers to Geronimo Allison.
Rodgers finished 28-42 for 313 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.
Ty Montgomery was the team’s leading rusher, with 35 yards on 12 carries.
Allison brought in six balls for a team-high 122 yards.
Nelson added six catches for 52 yards and two scores.
Green Bay improves to 2-1 with the win, with Chicago (1-2) coming to town Thursday night.
Cincinnati drops to 0-3 and travels to Cleveland (0-3) next Sunday.
Prior to the game, many of the Packers players, like those on many other NFL teams, locked arms during the playing of the national anthem. Some, including Martellus Bennett, Lance Kendricks, and Kevin King sat.
Also, Green Bay Police reports two people were arrested at Lambeau Field, in addition to seven ejections.
