WAUPUN (WTAQ-WLUK) – If you live near Waupun, you may have seen flames shooting into the sky Monday night.
No need to worry, it was training done by the Waupun Fire Department.
Seventeen fire departments and about 100 firefighters participated in the live propane fire training.
The training consisted of five propane fire scenarios with a variety of propane tanks.
Instructors say the training is essential to the safety of firefighters and for teaching them how to put out the blaze efficiently.
Waupun fire chief, BJ DeMaa, tells WLUK it’s important stuff.
“It’s a high risk, low frequency type event so the more training that we can do in this type of an environment, it really prepares fire departments for what they’re going to encounter in a real emergency.”
The last training of this kind was held in 2015.
Two months after that training, one of the departments that participated used that training in a real propane emergency.
