MADISON, WI (WSAU) Bail was set at $500,000 for a Madison man accused of shooting his girlfriend.
24-year-old Edward Matthews appeared in Dane County court Monday on charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide. Authorities say he shot the woman several times last month on Madison’s East Side. The standoff last week happened when the girlfriend had broken up with him earlier in the day.
Matthews was arrested early last Thursday following a nine-hour standoff with police that ended with a home set ablaze in Monona. He fired shots at police during the incident, and yelled at officers to shoot him. He eventually crawled out of the residence and surrendered.
He’ll face additional charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
