WAUPACA COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Cash bond has been set at $5,000,000 for a 62-year-old New London man charged with six counts of Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide for allegedly shooting at officers who were serving a search warrant at his house.
James Dax faces 11 felony counts, six of Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide and one apiece of First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Battery or Threat to Law Enforcement, Possession of a Firearm -Committment, Making Terrorist Threats, and Possession of Explosives for an Unlawful Purpose.
The criminal complaint states officers were serving an arrest warrant from an aggravated battery domestic violence case and had information from his wife that there were weapons and explosives on the property.
Investigators say there were also previous statements from Dax about not trusting law enforcement.
Officers say they were initially unsuccessful in getting Dax out of his home and deployed tear gas.
Dax reportedly retreated to the home’s attic and fired at police when they found him.
He allegedly hit one Waupaca County Sheriff’s deputy with a bullet, causing eardrum damage.
Dax is due back in court September 19 for an adjourned initial appearance.
