APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The musical notes that rolled through the streets of downtown Appleton had its way of touching many hearts.
Mary Kohrell is a music maker, which means she invested money to help the event, making it possible to have extra concerts.
This year there were 900 performances in all.
“There’s just so many genres of music and so many different people of different background,” Kohrell said. “We’ll just all be listening to the same music and appreciating it and it’s just a real sense of community.”
Kohrell and her husband Mark Kohrell have been investing money for four years.
They say the event has had a huge economic impact for the city.
“The more music that we can have going besides just beyond the mile, during the weekday and during the weekend,” Mark Kohrell said. “It does bring people in and it does help businesses.”
Wrapping up the final day for Mile of Music coordinators were busy, selling as much merchandise as they could and getting everything cleaned up.
Mile of Music coordinator, Kim Willems said, “but a lot of it too, since we are inside the venues, we’re all just going to be recovering.”
Willems says the event hosted 225 performers and 70 venues, that’s more than they’ve had before.
Mile of Music also held a concert on Washington Square for the first time this year.
“Having that outdoor stage worked really well and we’re hoping to bring that back next year too,” Willems said.
But that’s not the only thing Willems expects for next year.
“We see the number of attendees grow pretty much every year and I don’t think it will change this year. Everywhere I went was really packed.”
