GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Residents in the Brown County area are being urged to look out for fake money.
Green Bay Police say a total of seven counterfeit bills have recently been reported in Green Bay and Ashwaubenon.
Captain Kevin Warych notes this is not the first time fake $100’s have made the rounds in Brown County.
“Since October, detectives have seen a rash of counterfeit money being circulated in the community. When we’ve reviewed all the victims, we’ve come to the conclusion that the same $100 bills with Chinese symbols (are) being circulated in the community.”
Warych urges people who accept larger bills to take notice.
“These bills look very authentic. They look like the new $100 bills that are being made. However, there are distinct Chinese symbols on the front and the back of the bills that people need to look for.”
Officers are trying to determine the source of the money and ask anyone with information to call 920-448-3200.
