APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Fire has caused roughly $10,000 in damage at an Appleton apartment complex.
Crews were called to the Thursday morning blaze at Wire Works Apartments, 601 East Hancock Street, around 9:30 am.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw light smoke in the courtyard outside one of the units.
As they entered, crews say the unit’s living room was filled with smoke and the sprinkler system was running.
That automated sprinkler is credited with containing the fire.
Firefighters turned off the system and helped remove smoke and water from the apartment.
Investigators say the blaze was caused by a heat lamp that tipped over onto some boxes.
Nobody was injured.
