HUDSON, WI (WSAU) A Western Wisconsin man took his life hours after murdering his mother. Authorities say 28-year-old Logan Reese drove off after killing Charlene Wold and beating another family member Saturday in a home near Hudson.
Police spotted his vehicle early the next morning in Woodville and began chasing him for nearly 50-miles before he crossed the state line and crashed in Lakeland, Minnesota. Officers discovered Reese dead in his car from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Police reports say Reese returned to his apartment and set the building on fire. Police located his car, as he fired at officers during the chase that followed. He also crashed into a traffic barrier on Highway 8 while exchanging shots with pursing officers.
The motive for the fatal beating has not been revealed. Police are describing it only as a domestic violence case.
Reese also had a long history of criminal charges in Wisconsin including carrying a concealed weapon and multiple drunk driving offenses.
