WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – A Wausau area man has reached a plea bargain on charges related to a stabbing attack at a nail salon in 2015.
32-year-old Doan Nguyen pled no contest to charges of first-degree reckless injury by use of a dangerous weapon and first-degree recklessly endangering safety. He was days away from going to trial after pleading not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
Prosecutors claimed he stabbed 3 co-workers and injured himself at Best Nails Salon and Spa in the town of Rib Mountain after a woman told him to get back to work cleaning the store instead of playing on a cellphone. Officials said he stabbed the woman in the head, and the puncture could have easily been fatal. Two male co-workers then rushed the defendant, and authorities said they got seriously hurt.
Nguyen was claiming self-defense, but prosecutors said surveillance video would have backed up their version of the story. His sentencing date has not been set.
