UNDATED (WTAQ) – Republican Ron Johnson has won another term as Wisconsin’s U.S. Senator.
Johnson defeated Democratic challenger, and former U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, in Tuesday’s election. It was a rematch of the 2010 race which saw the Oshkosh businessman knock off the long-time Democrat.
“I believe America has given us a chance, an opportunity to put this nation on the right path and it’s exactly what I intend to do,” Johnson said during his victory speech. “The way we’re going to do it, is we’re going to be concentrating on the areas of agreement. Here’s the number one area, as Americans and Wisconsinites we share the same goal. We all want a safe, prosperous, secure Wisconsin and America.”
Many political experts felt Johnson, despite being the incumbent, was vulnerable in his re-election bid and had trailed in Marquette University Law School polls over the past few months in the run up to Election Day.
“I’m sorry we didn’t get the job done,” said Feingold in his concession speech in Middleton. “We gave it everything we had. I didn’t expect this outcome to be honest with you.”
