STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A recently-retired Portage County K-9 Deputy has passed away, according to the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
Baco, a K-9 that only retired in September, was put to rest by his family after suffering from cancer. Deputy Dan Wachowiak, his handler in the field, and his wife Jill cared for Baco when he retired.
Deputy Wachowiak recently returned from Indiana, where he and his new partner, K-9 Yent, trained together for more than six weeks. This newest K-9 team started patrolling together only the week before Baco’s passing.
