UNDATED (WSAU) – Wisconsin is one of the best states in America for manufacturing workers. A new survey from the online finance site SmartAsset ranks four Wisconsin cities in the top 25 places for manufacturers. Marinette is ranked sixth in the study, Watertown-Fort Atkinson is eighth, Appleton is ranked 17th, and Wausau is 23rd.
SmartAsset looked at job growth, salaries, and cost of living. The survey notes that Marinette scored well because 38-percent of the local jobs are tied to manufacturing. The city is home to Marinette Marine, Ansul/Tyco and Waupaca Foundry. The survey reports that manufacturing wages are up 31-percent during a five year period.
Wisconsin is the only state with two cities in the top ten, and four cities on the top 25 list.
Richmond, Kentucky ranked best-in-the-nation in the survey. There’s been a 40-percent increase in manufacturing jobs in the last three years, with corresponding increases in wages. Charleston, South Carolina and Beaumont, Texas were second and third on the list.
