MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ) – The attorney for a Marinette County man accused of trying to hire a hit man to kill his son and son’s wife believes he’s unfit to stand trial.
On Monday, Robert Dettmering pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect to two counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree intentional homicide. That plea, however, doesn’t address his mental condition at the time of the alleged crime.
Court records indicate that a psychological evaluation will be completed, then reviewed in court on January 20.
Prosecutors say Dettmering offered an undercover cop $10,000 to shoot his son and daughter-in-law. The man who reported the plot said Dettmering was upset that his son had sold some land that Dettmering had transferred to him.
