GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Now that the deadline for economic development project applications to receive part of Green Bay’s excess stadium tax money has come and gone, there’s a lot of work ahead for the sub-committee tasked with making a recommendation.
City finance director Dawn Foeller tells FOX 11 that applications were coming in right up until the 4 p.m. deadline on Friday.
“I had about 7 last night,” said Foeller. “I think I totaled an additional 20 today, so just updating my list has been pretty busy.”
In all, 27 applications were submitted. They range from a low request of $12,500 for a rotary clock at Cherry and Adams Street up to the entire $1 million available from Green Bay Baseball. The owners of the Bullfrogs have been working on their plan for a 3,500-seat outdoor event center on the west edge of the Fox River.
A comprehensive plan from the six-member sub-committee is expected to be presented to the city’s finance committee.
Some of the criteria include how the sales tax money could lead to more community money, impact on the city and taxpayers, and why the money is needed to complete the project.
The economic development sub-committee will meet Thursday, September 29, for the first time to discuss the applications. Recommendations to the finance committee are expected on October 11th, while the full city council will then have the final say October 18th.
