ONEIDA, WI (WTAQ) – Oneida police are talking about what’s now being called a double homicide investigation.
During a news conference Thursday, Oneida Police Chief Richard VanBoxtel identified the victims as 77-year-old Harry Brown Bear and his 67-year-old wife, Lorraine Brown Bear.
VanBoxtel says that a neighbor called police to ask about a welfare check after not seeing the Brown Bear’s for a few days.
Around 9:37 a.m. Wednesday, VanBoxtel says officers arrived at the couple’s home on Beechtree Lane and found their bodies, which had been there for several days.
VanBoxtel won’t say how the couple was killed and reiterated that the public is not in danger.
“From the time that the people were deceased to when we found them was several days,” said VanBoxtel. “If there was imminent risk, I think something would have already happened by now.”
Oneida Police say autopsies were performed Thursday afternoon.
