APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A not guilty plea was entered Tuesday by the man accused of stealing a police car, carjacking another vehicle and leading cops on a high-speed chase this summer.
36-year-old Michael Lawrenz is charged with 21 counts, including robbery, criminal damage, taking a car without consent and resisting arrest.
A trial has been scheduled for January 10.
Back on July 23, police say they were investigating a possible retail theft involving two men at the Pawn America in Grand Chute. It was there that a physical altercation took place, with Lawrenz getting into a K-9 unit squad car and driving away.
Police opened fire at Lawrenz as he continued fleeing, striking him once.
