KIMBERLY, WI (WTAQ) – Police officers in the Fox Valley were busy Friday morning as they dealt with three separate crashes within five minutes of each other.
According to a news release, officers saw a silver vehicle speeding southbound on Madison Street (Highway N) approaching the community bridge in Kimberly around 7:40 a.m.
A citizen called to report a similar vehicle driving recklessly in that area. Another call from a citizen reported that vehicle lost control and slammed into a tree near the intersection of Washington Street and Maes Avenue.
A 31-year-old man, who was the driver of that vehicle, became combative and resistive, officers say. He was taken to a nearby hospital for an evaluation. The man was then arrested on charges of 3rd offense OWI, resisting/obstructing an officer and three counts of bail jumping.
Then about a minute later, Fox Valley Metro police officers were called to the 100 block of Jean Street in Combined Locks for a car versus pedestrian crash. Officials say a 79-year-old man was walking on a sidewalk when he was hit by a vehicle backing out of a driveway.
The man was taken to a local hospital with a hip injury, but officials don’t believe it to be life-threatening. A 30-year-old woman driving that car was not hurt and cited for unsafe backing.
Around 7:45 a.m., police responded to the 200 block of S. Washington Street in Kimberly for a vehicle versus building crash. Officers say a young female driver with an instructional permit got her foot caught on the accelerator causing her vehicle to lose control and hit a house.
The girl and her passengers were not hurt. No one inside the home was injured. Police say there was minor damage to both the house and the vehicle.
