GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is scheduled to appear in Green Bay on Friday.
But you can count U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) out of appearing with the business mogul.
“My problem is we’ve already got my schedule planned out, and these stops end up being so short notice that I make commitments. I’m a business guy and I actually honor those commitments,” Johnson said Tuesday. “So I don’t figure I’ll be able to join him.”
Johnson, who’s seeking re-election against former Democratic U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, did have something to say about Trump’s war of words with the family of a fallen Muslim-American soldier.
“We should only honor and respect Gold Star parents and the service of the finest among us who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice,” says Johnson. “I disagree with any statement issued by anybody that doesn’t show full respect and full honor to those Gold Star parents and the sacrifice of their loved ones.”
Trump’s criticism of Khizr Khan and Ghazala Khan, who took the stage at last week’s Democratic convention, sparked growing concern and dismay from Republican lawmakers.
