UNDATED (WTAQ) – Criminal charges will not be filed against Marinette County sheriff’s deputies in the shooting death of an armed man.
According to the Marinette County District Attorney, the shooting of 38-year-old Michael Rasmussen on June 15 in Pembine was justified.

Officials say they located Rasmussen on Highway 141 after getting an alert from Madison police that he was suicidal and a danger to authorities. They also said Rasmussen was headed to the Northwoods where he had family.
Deputies said they tried to negotiate with Rasmussen, but he threatened to shoot officers. Eventually, according to sheriff’s officials, he stopped, got out of his vehicle with a gun, and ignored deputies’ commands to drop his gun. Three deputies then fatally shot him.
The deputies returned to work in July.
