GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Summer vacation will be winding down before you know it and if you’re a parent, one thing you should have on your “to-do” list, is booking your child’s sports physical.
Dr. Jeremy Metzler, Sports and Family Medicine physician at Prevea Health, says you should not wait and book your appointment now.
“As part of the annual checkup, they can definitely do a sports physical or they can come into one of our clinics and have a sports physical done as well.”
Metzler says part of the examination process will be filling out a page of health history questions among other things.
“We look at all their joints and muscle strength and make sure not one side of their body is stronger than the other. We definitely listen to the heart and lungs to make sure there’s nothing abnormal going on there.”
The WIAA requires a sports physical every two years.
Metzler says they typically see a student before their freshman year and then just before their junior year.
