ALGOMA, WI (WTAQ) – An overnight fire damaged several boats at the Algoma Marina.
Officials say it happened just before midnight Wednesday when they got a call that there was a boat fire at the Algoma marina.
Five boats were involved, four sank. It’s not known how many other boats have minor damage.
Firefighters faced some difficulties because the wind helped the fire spread to other boats. However, they were able to move some of the boats to try and keep the damage to a minimal.
Algoma Fire Chief Tom Ackerman says based on the video a bystander shot, they believe they know which boat the fire started on.
There’s a lot of fuel in the water, so barriers have been put up.
DNR and Coast Guard are sending units to help with the cleanup.
There’s no word on what caused the fire.
Ackerman says the marina will probably be closed the remainder of the day.
They hope to open by Friday and into the weekend but there is also damage on some of the docks.
