GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A former Brown County sheriff’s deputy will spend two years in prison and seven years on extended supervision for stealing from the county’s D.A.R.E. program.
Kevin Vanden Heuvel pled guilty back in March to theft by an employee and misconduct in office.
Vanden Heuvel was also ordered to pay $46,222.63 in restitution.
Sheriff John Gossage was first to read a victim impact statement during Friday’s sentencing hearing. Gossage told the court that the badge was, “tarnished by Vanden Heuvel’s actions.”
Vanden Heuvel apologized in court saying, in part, that he, “made poor decisions and regardless of his punishment he’ll spend the rest of his life working to restore his name and set positive examples moving forward.”
Prosecutors say Vanden Heuvel would help park cars in the D.A.R.E. parking lot on a Packers game day, but would give out fake passes and pocket some of the cash. Working with D.A.R.E volunteer Early Fuller, the criminal complaint states that this had been going on for 7 years.
Fuller has also been accused of stealing money. He pled not guilty to two charges connected with the case and will be back in court June 27.
